Old Man Winter is back! How appropriate for the First Day of Spring (insert sarcasm here). It seems like only yesterday it was 50 degrees, sunny, and I was thinking about firing up the grill for the first time this season. Oh wait. That was yesterday.
There’s 2 – 3 inches of snow on Four Mile Ridge with no sign of stopping. I’m using my first unscheduled 3 hour delay to catch up on some blogging and kitchen clean up (as always).
We’ve been taking the Ranger out pretty much every evening and checking cards in trail cams, looking for sheds and searching for the first signs of spring.
Luckily, the trees don’t have any leaves yet (a heavy, wet snow on trees with leaves causes major destruction with breaking and cracking limbs and major power outages). But I did spy some brave mosses and ferns struggling to pull some warmth from the feeble sun and get their green on.
I also noticed a green haze around the briars. Isn’t it awesome that the giant jagger bushes grow back first (oops, more sarcasm)?
Even though the weather outside is looking frightful, I was reassured that spring is right around the corner when I opened the sun porch door this morning. Nope, it wasn’t the sights or sounds. It was the smell.
The dogs were sprayed by a skunk.
Seeking spring and a shotgun. 😉
