Good News, Bad News

Good news is:  my Garlic Basmati Rice with Summer Squash recipe was chosen for the Governor’s Buy Local Cookout!!!  So my recipe will be published in this year’s Buy Local Cookbook (linked to the cookbook page)!  Bad news is:  although Maryland’s Buy Local Week is July 18 – 26, the actual cookout at the Statehouse is July 16th, right in the middle of Bailey Family Beach Week in Myrtle Beach, SC!  Waaaaaaaaa!  Nowhere in the original paperwork was the Cookout date mentioned, so I figured it would be between July 18 – 26th.  So, I can’t attend this year!

More good news!  Sid and I have managed to acquire, with the help of some awesome friends and a yard sale site, a Hobart commercial 25 qt. mixer!  Bad news is:  it is broken, the gear stripped and the mixer came with a box, filled with at least 150 small moving parts, all coated with some really gross black grease.  Gotta love that!

Good news is:  Sid dropped the mixer off at the mixer fixer in Williamsport (God love him!!!) and they said that it’s a real gem, high quality mixer!  Bad news is:  they charge $40 just for an estimate on how much it will cost to fix it.  Who does that?

Good news!  We had a blast last Sunday, celebrating Mac’s 9th birthday at Smiley’s, Deep Creek Lake!!!  Go-carts, cupcakes and bumper boats, it was all good!  Bad news!  Mac got into the poison patch and his eyeball swelled almost shut on Friday.  Poor guy!

Handsome guy (pre-poison)!!!

Pappy – Pilot, Mac – Co-Pilot!

Good news is:  Joss T and I fell in love with Baby Dawson this week.  Bad news is:  we had to give him back! 🙁

Final good news:  school is almost out for SUMMER!  And there is no bad news to go along with that!!!  YIPPEE!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Thanks, Regina! What’s cooking in your “neck of the woods?” I know it’s always something yummy! I’m making chili today – using dried beans, so it’s taking forever! Hope it’s good!

I love reading your blogs! Interesting, factual, sometimes funny and always informative. I grew up with Sid and his family. I’m sure he’s already told you many ‘stories’ and made you laugh at the things we did. :-). Keep up the blog, I look forward to your words!
